If you were in your closet on December 26 when tornadoes roared through the Metroplex, you might have been comforted to know that the Dallas emergency staff were on the job. They had gathered in the Emergency Operations Center at Dallas City Hall on that devastating Saturday to monitor the storms and offer aid to areas within the city that suffered damage. Whether it’s a tornado, flood, dam breakage, hazardous incident, terrorist activity or pandemic, the city has a plan and is prepared to act, according to Kevin Oden, Dallas assistant emergency management coordinator.
The TIAA travelers were on the road again this month. Fifteen of us registered for the Su Vino Winery trip to Grapevine on June 14 and had a great time tasting champagnes, white wines, sweet and full-bodied reds and finding out which is "Our Wine". This craft winery buys grape juice from various growers and adds natural flavors which is why sipping "Bless Your Heart" wine reminds the drinker of watermelon and lazy afternoons.

With regret, we have to cancel our trip to the Trinity River Audubon post. Our date has been affected by the Byron Nelson golf tournament and we can no longer visit on our selected date. We apologize for this late notification. A tour of this area will be scheduled again later in the year at a date which will avoid excessive heat.
Texas-based Resistol hat company has been the leader in the western hat industry since 1927. Demand for their hats continues growing today and "the small hat factory" in Garland is the largest manufacturer of headwear in the world as a part of Hatco, Inc. All phases of production are still operated and controlled locally so as to ensure product of the highest quality – felt, straw or beaver “you'll always find Resistol has got you covered”. We will leave TI at 1:00 pm, enjoy a guided tour of the facility at 1:30 and return around 3:00.
The Texas Instruments Jazz Band is celebrating their 30th anniversary this year with a celebratory concert at the Eisemann Center with the great jazz guitarist, John Pizzarelli, as the band's special guest for this concert. John is the consummate entertainer who is internationally known for classic standards, late-night ballads, and the cool jazz flavor he brings to his performances. The TI Jazz Band is a full, 18-piece band that was formed in 1986, consists of TI and Raytheon employees and performs about ten concerts a year.
Would probably be there for 3-4 nights
Globe Life Park in Arlington: We shall enjoy the national pastime plus support “our” team as this powerhouse strives to win the World Series with some new players as well as some of our favorites (remember Mike Napoli?) We’ll sit in the Upper Reserved section looking down the third base line and enjoy the great view in this retro-fit stadium which is considered to be one of the prettiest baseball stadiums in the nation.
Grab your camera or smartphone and let’s head to east to the "Official Bluebonnet City of Texas". There are 40 miles of mapped Bluebonnet Trails and our office will call the city to learn where the best flowers are on the trails this day. We can stop and take pictures whenever we see a spectacular wildflower show (and not just Bluebonnets, either).
