Community Involvement

Medical Reserve Corps

The Dallas County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) provides supplemental support to a variety of local public health initiatives such as school, civic, and faith-based sponsored health fairs, back-up support of immunization clinics and vaccination campaigns, epidemiology staff support during disease outbreaks, and community-wide public health education campaigns. They recruit and train local volunteers to supplement medical response to local disasters and other public health emergencies.

Readers 2 Leaders goal is to develop and grow the reading skills of children, age 3-10, in West Dallas.  Programs include Reading Buddies, After-School Tutors and Saturday Storytime. 

SMU Mock Trial

SMU Dedman School of Law – Florence Hall; 3330 University Dr., on the SMU campus located near Hillcrest and Daniel Ave.

The SMU Dedman School of Law provides the “NITA Trial Program Dallas” seminar during June of each year for practicing lawyers across the Nation. This seminar allows lawyers the opportunity to practice court presentation skills in front of volunteers who serve as jury members.  

Metrocrest Services

The mission of Metrocrest Services is to provide programs for individuals, families and seniors that lead to self-sufficiency and foster independence. These core values guide their day-to-day operations and long-term plans:  provide encouragement, hope, and a path to independence delivered with dignity and respect, be a rewarding place to work for individuals who are well-trained, experienced, professional and compassionate, attract and retain volunteers who are dedicated and committed to serving their neighbors in need.

Network of Community Ministries

Network of Community Ministries is based in Richardson and has a service area encompassing 14 zip codes in Dallas County, with over 70% of those served coming from Lake Highlands and Garland.  Network Ministries is a non-denominational, community-based organization and provides emergency services, dental services to adolescents and children and services for seniors. 

Dallas Ramp Project

Have you ever changed a person’s life in a single day? The Texas Ramp Project does it hundreds of times a year! They build wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly people who can’t afford to buy one. In a few hours in a morning, they give these folks the freedom to leave their home again—the home where they want to remain but whose steps have imprisoned them.

Family Place

The Family Place empowers victims of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling and skills that create independence while building community engagement and advocating for social change to stop family violence.  The Family Place is a nonprofit agency that helps families hurt by domestic violence. All services are provided free of charge, with exception of Supervised Child Visitation and the Battering Intervention and Prevention Program (BIPP).

Habitat ReStore

Northwest Dallas ReStore - 3546 Forest Lane

The ReStore is a retail store that stocks new and gently used home decorating and home improvement products at a deep discount. ReStore volunteers work alongside staff to create a friendly environment for their customers. They have four ReStores that are open seven days a week, giving the most flexible options for volunteers to donate their time.
