TIAA has been notified that TI will postpone the United Way Campaign, originally set for April, to later this summer. The campaign plans included a large number of volunteer events with active TIers going out in the community to visit United Way agencies. All of these events will be shifted to later this summer. The TIAA Annual Charity Golf Tournament is one of the events affected by this decision; the tournament set for April 6, will be postponed to later in the year.
The TIAA office at the Texins Activity Center will temporarily be closed but phone calls and emails will be monitored and answered. TIAA will closely monitor the situation and work with TI to resume normal activities as soon as practical. In the meantime, we encourage our members to stay informed and do all we can to stop the spread of the virus. A good source of information from the CDC can be found online at: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus
TI Foundation
As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve and impact our neighbors and communities, the TI Foundation has granted a total of $550,000 to United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, United Way Bay Area, North Texas Food Bank and United Way partners in Sherman, Houston, Tucson and Portland, Maine. These grants will support the most immediate, critical relief efforts in our communities.
The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas grant will go directly to a relief fund set up to provide emergency assistance to those most affected by the impact of COVID-19. The grant to the North Texas Food Bank will help with the purchase of food and delivery services.
“Supporting our communities has been a hallmark of our company since TI was founded 90 years ago,” said Andy Smith, executive director of the TI Foundation. “And our communities need our help now more than ever. These grants will directly help many families and individuals whose lives are being severely disrupted by these uncertain times.”
TIers have expressed that they want to help during this time. But with many employees working from home and practicing social distancing, traditional volunteering is not an option. “The best way you can help right now is to give what you can to a United Way relief fund and request a match from the TI Foundation to double the impact of your donation,” Andy said.
The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas fund will address current community impact concerns including:
- Shortage of supplies to meet basic health and safety needs (paper goods, hand sanitizer, cleaning products and food)
- Extended closures of school, childcare and after school programs, impacting children’s access to breakfast and lunch programs and parents’ ability to work
- Immediate economic impact for many workers, particularly in the service, retail and travel industries
