Chickasaw Cultural Center Visit, April 2, 2015

Apr 23, 2015

Wow, what a great way to spend April 2.  Forty-two TIAA members and guests climbed into a large luxury passenger bus and traveled about 135 miles to visit the Chickasaw Cultural Center near Davis, OK.  The Chickasaw Nation consists of 7,648 square miles in Oklahoma and is home to the largest tribal cultural center in the U.S. We stopped by their Bedre Chocolate Factory first for an up-close view of the factory floor and sampled (and bought!) delicious chocolates to take home.  After a short visit at the Chickasaw Welcome Center we drove on  to the Cultural Center where we enjoyed Indian Tacos made with fry bread and other delights for lunch at their Aaimpa Café before taking a 90-minute guided tour to learn more about their traditions. They spent five years planning, creating and landscaping this beautiful venue and it fits in perfectly with the surrounding prairie land.
