Fifteen TIAA travelers hopped on a new Echo bus and toured the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth on February 18. We learned that it was completed in 1998 entirely with private funds with Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass donating one city block in Sundance Square for its location. They hold the Van CliburnInternational Piano Competitions there (using Steinway pianos who are lifted up to stage level from three stories below) along with symphony concerts, plays, musicals, etc. The venue can be manipulated by raising or lowering seats near the stage, by adding or removing cloth panels on the sides of the hall and it seats 2,056. The acoustics are first class because we visited the 6th floor and could still hear every word said by the people rehearsing on the stage! Free musicals or concerts are held each year for all Fort Worth school kids from 1st-12th grades.
