Neighbors in Need

Dec 29, 2015

In response to the tornadoes and storms that impacted several North Texas communities on December 26, the TI Foundation has made an immediate $25,000 grant to the American Red Cross and has committed to match TI employee and retiree donations to the American Red Cross up to an additional $25,000. For the match, employee and retiree donations must be made through this microsite by January 15, 2016.

“Our hearts go out to people in the hardest hit communities who have suffered tremendous loss.  TIers’ donations and the TI Foundation grant will enable the American Red Cross to help provide immediate shelter, food and financial support to disaster survivors in North Texas as well as in other areas across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas that have seen the most devastation from the major winter storm that caused the tornadoes,” said Andy Smith, TI Foundation executive director.

Volunteers Needed Now

The tornadoes that hit the Dallas area on Saturday night impacted hundreds of families and took at least 11 lives. The American Red Cross is in need of volunteers for response.

Volunteers will be trained in feeding, sheltering, client orientation, and disaster assessments at sessions held daily at the American Red Cross North Texas office. For more details, please register here.  Once registration is complete, a member of the Red Cross volunteer services team will make contact regarding available opportunities and trainings. http://www.redcross.org/support/volunteer/opportunities#step1

In addition, VolunteerNow is helping connect volunteers to organizations that are assisting with the relief efforts in Dallas and Collin County. Many organizations are on the ground providing shelter and food to the individuals and families that were affected and first responders, as well as spiritual and emotional care, clean up kits, animal rescue and care, and general supplies.
