ON-HAND ART SEMINAR II – with Gail Chandler

Sep 6, 2024

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Gail Chandler delivered a well-thought-out art seminar on watercolor with an emphasis on sketchbooks as travel or garden journals. Gail told her audience how she acquired an interest in art and then found a pathway for developing skills in drawing and painting. This time, it involved sketching and adding color with watercolors.

Here are four comments from attendees.

Gail is such a great teacher and very entertaining also. She shared her personal sketchbooks which were fascinating. Our project was more challenging than last year’s, and it was fun to see everyone’s interpretation of a shadowy landscape”. -Annzelle Boswell.

“I concur with Annzelle comment. I very much enjoyed being a part of the class – I was pleased to see a number of people that I don’t recall seeing at other TIAA events”. -Larry James.

“I thought the class was overall well received; the participants had a good time and learned some things as well. I enjoyed listening to Gail, and appreciated the 2-page handout with all the references, e.g., where to purchase supplies, list of art books and societies, etc.  I also enjoyed learning how to mix the watercolors together to derive different colors, and how to mix them with water to produce various shades of light and dark. A good time was had by all!! In summary, I enjoyed the class and learned new things”. -Christie Rambin.

“Gail was fascinating and inspiring. I know I have very little talent, but she really made me feel good about what I was trying and made me want to try further. Really, really educational and fun!” -Nancy Little.
