TIAA/TI Annual Charity Golf Tournament Raises More Than $20,000

May 23, 2022

After an absence of two years from the golf course, we were able to hold the 21st golf tournament, benefiting local charities. The tournament was held at the Waterview Golf Club in Rowlett, on a bright and warm afternoon Monday, May 16.

Golfers representing corporate sponsors and retiree golfers benefitted The Senior Source, while active TI golfers benefitted the United Way of Metropolitan of Dallas. As a result of the combined efforts, the tournament raised more than $20,000, including golfer fees, donations from individuals, matching gifts from the TI Foundation, and contributions from corporate sponsors. The cost of the tournament was underwritten by the Texans Credit Union and Texas Instruments, making it possible for 100% of donations and fees to go directly to the non-profits.

At the end of the day, the winning team of Ellen Barker was awarded the trophy, with an impressive 9 under par score for the day. Ellen is a recent TI retiree, where she served as CIO and Senior Vice President of IT for the company. She has been a supporter of our golf tournament over the years, and headed up the United Way Campaign for retirees this year. Joining Ellen on her team were: Alan Barker, Alex Barker, and Brian Benshoo. Only two strokes behind in 2nd place was the team of: Brandon Hoppe, Rick Beck, Bryan Hoppe, and Michael Peck. And only two strokes back in 3rd place was the team of Ryan Wolf, Victor Hodge, Dustin Lowe and Chris Saur.

Legend Sponsors for this year’s tournament were:

Steve J. Combest, Financial Advisor, Capital Financial Services

Jerry Pierce, CFP, Edward Jones & Co.

Individual Winners were:

Longest Drive: Michael Peck

Closest to Pin #2: Dan Murphree

Closest to Pin #17: Rick Beck

Other Corporate Sponsors for the tournament included:

Technology Service Professionals Inc. (TSP), a Champion Sponsor and SVTronics, a Masters Sponsor.

A major factor in this year’s result were the generous donations of more than 20 Individual donors, as well as the contributions of the golfers.
