TIAA/TI Annual Charity Golf Tournament Raises More Than $28,800

May 17, 2023

On Monday, May 15, the 22nd annual tournament kicked off at 1:00 p.m. at the Waterview Golf Club in Rowlett. Some 76 golfers, including active TIers, retirees and corporate sponsors, raced their carts to their positions for the start of the tournament. It was a bright but muggy day with a possibility of rain in the late afternoon, but there was an air of optimism. Golfers representing corporate sponsors and retiree golfers benefitted The Senior Source, while active TI golfers benefitted the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. As a result of the combined efforts, the tournament raised more than $28,800, including golfer fees, donations from individuals, the estimated matching gifts from the TI Foundation, and contributions from corporate sponsors. The cost of the tournament was underwritten by the Texans Credit Union and Texas Instruments, making it possible for 100% of donations and fees to go directly to the non-profits.

About mid-way through the tournament, when most of the teams had completed their 9th hole, there was a deluge of rain and brisk wind. The golf club sounded the alarm and most of the teams raced back to the club house. After a pause of about 30 minutes, many of the soaked golfers called it a day. One of the teams had umbrellas in their cart and continued to play after the rain, and another team sheltered in place and finished the course. Because of the interruption, it was decided to base the awards on the team scores through the first nine holes and to add in pars for the remaining holes. On this basis, the TI team of Syed Sajjath, Guy Josselyn, Charles Johnson, and Paul Stover had the leading score of 62. Only three strokes behind was the team of last year’s winners: Ellen Barker, Alan Barker, Alex Barker, and Brian Benshoof. And, in third place was the TI team of Brandon Hoppe, Rick Beck, Bryan Hoppe, and Joseph Pytcher.

The Legend Sponsor for this year’s tournament was Jerry Pierce, CFP, Edward Jones & Co. Other Corporate Sponsors for the tournament included:

The University of Texas at Dallas, a Champion Sponsor and three Masters Sponsors:

Highland Springs, SVTronics, and The Tradition – Lovers Lane and The Tradition – Prestonwood.

A major factor in this year’s results were the generous donations of 25 Individual donors, as well as the contributions of the golfers.
