TI Foundation Expands Matching Gifts Program

May 30, 2018

Through the TI Foundation, TI retirees have long had the ability to match their donations to charitable organizations in education and arts, as well as United Way. Now, the TI Foundation board is expanding the scope of its matching gifts program to include any charitable organization, as long as the primary purpose of the organization is not partisan politics, religion or misaligned with TI’s corporate values. This change opens the program to thousands of charities that previously were not included.

The yearly maximum cap is also being modified from $10,000 each to education, arts and United Way to a total $30,000 maximum for you to use the way you wish.

What does this mean for you?

It means more choice and more impact. You now have greater freedom and flexibility to secure dollar-for-dollar matching to the organizations that matter most to you. Up to a total of $30,000 of your donations can be matched through the program, either to a single organization or to multiple organizations. It’s your choice.

“Our matching gifts program has been part of TI’s culture for almost 50 years,” said Andy Smith, executive director of the TI Foundation. “This program reflects TI’s commitment to the communities where we live and work and honors the generosity of our employees and retirees by helping your personal donations of dollars and hours do more good.”

Don’t forget that the TI Foundation also matches the hours you volunteer at $125 for every 10 hours, up to $1,000 per year. The volunteer match has been open to virtually all nonprofits since its inception. The expanded matching gifts program now aligns with the volunteer matching program.

Here’s how to make sure your donations make twice the impact:

  • Any donations you make, or have already made since January 1, 2018,to eligible* 501(c)(3) charitable groups in 2018 and beyond will qualify for matching dollars up to $30,000 per retiree, per year. (The minimum donation to be matched is $25.)
  • You must make the matching request online at http://getinvolved.ti.com. The deadline for matching requests is January 31, 2019.
  • If you make a monthly or regular donation to a nonprofit, you can either request the match periodically, or wait until you have a year-end total. Again, the deadline for matching requests is January 31, 2019.
