Adventure-seeking TIAA members and guests spent several hours at the enclosed, climate-controlled Mesquite Championship Rodeo arena on June 12. We had prime seats near the chutes and watched bareback and saddled bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding and barrel racing. Probably our favorite event, though, was "Mutton Bustin" when 4-6 year-old kids clutch the backs of big shaggy sheep and try to hang on for eight seconds as the sheep seeks to join its flock at the other end of the arena — and all for $20.
