OK, so it wasn't "a dark and stormy night" but it wasn't pouring down rain like the originally scheduled trip in October. Twenty-five brave TIAA folks signed up for a 90-minute haunted ghost tour of Denton on December 11 led by a great storyteller, Shelly Tucker. (After all any town that boasts a grave on the courthouse lawn ought to have a ghost or two …) We ate at the supposedly haunted Abbey Inn Restaurant and Pub and then the Ghost Lady led us around downtown while weaving a narrative spell that resurrected the past, uncovered buried secrets, and recalled forgotten mysteries. “People come to Denton and never leave …. ever!” Shelly exclaims while rolling her eyes. We enjoyed the beautiful Christmas lights around the courthouse, a band playing throughout the night and a surprise parade (that went went right thru our tour.)
