February 22, 2018 – Dallas County Medical Reserve Corps; Packet Stuffing

The TIAA Community Involvement team is offering two events to be held simultaneously at The Senior Source facility located at 3910 Harry Hines Blvd. on Thursday, February 22, 2018.  You may choose whichever event that appeals to you the most.

Our first event supports the Dallas County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).  Volunteers will help assemble emergency response bags relating to emergency preparedness for the MRC.  The MRC provides supplemental support to a variety of local public health initiatives such as school, civic, and faith-based sponsored health fairs, back-up support of immunization clinics and vaccination campaigns, epidemiology staff support during disease outbreaks, and community-wide public health education campaigns. They recruit and train local volunteers to supplement medical response to local disasters and other public health emergencies.  The emergency response bags we assemble will be used throughout the year to be handed out to agencies the MRC supports.

The second event supports The Senior Source’s Employment Team.  The Team is planning its first annual Mock Interview Day on Thursday, February 22nd from 10:00 am to noon.  The purpose of these practice sessions is to give clients an appreciation of what to expect during a typical interview and an opportunity to refine their interviewing skills.  The Senior Source would really appreciate your valued help with conducting interviews that day due to your interview experience and insight into what employers are looking for in potential candidates.

The Senior Source will provide the client’s resume, desired job, and interview questions to you in advance.  All they ask of you is to make the mock interview as close to a real interview as possible.   The clients are expecting feedback to help them improve their overall interviewing skills.  Please be prepared to offer honest and constructive feedback to the client right after the interview.  You will assess each of the interviewees with a feedback sheet that will be provided to you.

Time allotment for each mock interview session will be approximately 45 minutes, which allows:

25-30 minutes to conduct the interview
15-20 minutes to critique interviewing skills and provide feedback and 5 minutes to prepare for the next interviewee

Please let us know if you would like to participate and which sessions you are interested in (you may select either session or both):

 Session A:   10:00 ꟷ 11:00 A.M.

Session B:   11:00 ꟷ 12:00 P.M.

The Senior Source will provide more details closer to the February 22 date.  Thank you in advance for your time and consideration!

Please join us at the Texins Activity Center to board a Senior Source bus at 8:30 am.  Please register your attendance for either event by logging onto TIAlumni.org and click on the event’s name from the “Calendar” tab then fill out your registration information.  Afterwards, we will have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense) and arrive back to the Texins Activity Center 1:30 pm.
