Our volunteer event at Dolphin Heights Community Garden will be to remove weeds and prepare the garden for the winter dormant season. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a pair of gardening gloves for your use. Please join us at the Texins Activity Center to board a Senior Source bus to volunteer for service at the Dolphin Heights Community Garden. Afterwards, we will have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense) and arrive back to the Texins Activity Center by 1:30 pm. Please register for this event by logging onto the TIAA website “Community Involvement” tab – “Volunteer Calendar” – and clicking on this event and then on “Event Registration Page”.
The Dolphin Heights Community Garden was founded about four years ago on a vacant lot on Silver Ave by community residents. It is a place that all residents can gather to grow fruits and vegetables and enjoy beautiful open spaces in Dolphin Heights. The garden is also being used as a learning tool for the kids in the Dolphin Heights After School Program (ASP). They learn about plant growth and decide which types of fruits and vegetables to grow each summer.
