We’ve known about them since 1947 so let’s go see the scrolls which were discovered in caves on the western shore of the Dead Sea. They were probably hidden during the First Jewish Revolt against the occupying Romans in A.D. 66-70, when Qumran was destroyed and abandoned. Carbon-14 testing and handwriting analysis confirmed that they date between 250 B.C. and A.D. 70.  The survival of the scrolls for so many centuries is astounding. This exhibit is one of the largest exhibitions of these scrolls ever presented in the U.S and consists of 21 scroll fragments and other antiquities.  There are 12 fragments on display that have been held privately and never publicly displayed before. We will leave at 9:00 a.m., tour at 10:30, enjoy lunch at our own expense and return at 2:30 p.m. Cost will be $28 for members and $31 for non-members.
