Hyatt Legal Plans service available to TI retirees

Through TI's partnership with MetLife, TIers have access to free will preparation and a legal advice and consultation service offered by Hyatt Legal Plans, a MetLife company.

Free will preparation: new in 2004

Beginning January 1, 2004, a new will preparation service will be offered to all U.S. TI retirees through Hyatt Legal Plans, a MetLife company, fully covering the legal costs associated with having a will prepared or updated. There is no cost to retirees.

Many people need wills, yet few have them, leaving their assets to be distributed according to state law, regardless of their actual intentions. Now, with the new will preparation service, you can make important decisions—such as who should inherit your property, who should handle your financial affairs, and who will care for your children in the event of your death.

It's easy to use the will preparation service. Simply call Hyatt Legal Plans at (800) 821-6400, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday, to speak to a representative. You will be asked to provide the name of your employer and your Social Security number. The representative will locate a participating plan attorney in your area and provide an authorization number you will need to make an appointment. (Non-participating attorneys may also be used; you will receive reimbursement for covered services according to a set fee schedule. In this case, you will be responsible for any of the out-of-network fees that exceed the reimbursed amount.)

People procrastinate for many reasons, but, thanks to the will preparation service, you can prepare or update a will easily and at no cost. And you'll have peace of mind knowing that you're protecting and preserving your family's financial future.

TI offers legal advice and consultation through Hyatt Legal Plan

This service provides TI retirees with access to participating plan attorneys for unlimited advice and consultation on personal legal matters, excluding employment and business-related matters. There is no cost to retirees who use a participating attorney. If further services are pursued after the free consultation, the attorney will quote applicable fees.

Why is legal advice and consultation important to TIers?

According to the National Resource Center for Consumers of Legal Services Legal Plan Letter, September 1996, most people encounter at least four to six legal questions a year but don't ask an attorney for advice. Many people avoid consulting with an attorney because they are afraid of high fees, they do not know how to select one or they are not sure a matter has legal implications at all. With the legal advice and consultation service, TI retirees have easy access to resources for common and not-so-common legal matters.

How to access this service

Accessing the legal advice and consultation service is simple. TI retirees can call Hyatt Legal Plans' toll-free telephone number: (800) 821-6400. A client service representative will ask for the TI customer number, 29129, and your Social Security number. The client service representative will assist in locating a participating plan attorney in the area and will provide an authorization number to give to the attorney that is selected.

Hyatt Legal Plans is available 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
