The Texas Ramp Project-Joint Event with active TIers
[Location – Assigned the week before the event]
Have you ever changed a person’s life in a single day? The Texas Ramp Project does it hundreds of times a year! They build wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly people who can’t afford to buy one. In a few hours in a morning, they give these folks the freedom to leave their home again—the home where they want to remain but whose steps have imprisoned them.
This volunteer event will be held in conjunction with active TI’ers and United Way volunteers. We may be able to build several ramps along with the increased number of volunteers. Volunteers will assist in the construction of a custom-made ramp – no construction skills required and all tools will be provided. Please meet by 9:00 am at an assigned location by private vehicle (a Senior Source van will not be available for this event’s transportation). Afterwards, we will have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense). Please register online for this event. You MUST register so we know how many volunteers to count on for this event.
- Volunteers must wear heavy duty closed-toe shoes or boots. Hats and long sleeve shirts are recommended as all activity is outdoors and may be in full sun light.
- Volunteers should be comfortable with lifting at least 20 lbs however not all volunteers will need to lift this much.
- Volunteers should be comfortable with standing, bending, and walking for extended periods of time
