Readers 2 Leaders

Readers 2 Leaders goal is to develop and grow the reading skills of children, age 3-10, in West Dallas.  Programs include Reading Buddies, After-School Tutors and Saturday Storytime.  Please join us at the Texins Fitness Center to board a Senior Source bus at 8:30 am. Volunteers will fill envelopes with annual fund drive literature to assist Readers2Leaders in obtaining new donations. Work is not overly strenuous and can be considered light duty effort.  Afterwards, we will have lunch at a local restaurant (at our own expense) and arrive back to the Texins Fitness Center by

2021 Komen More Than Pink Walk

The MORE THAN PINK Walk is Komen’s signature fundraising event. It’s a day where we can put aside everything else in our lives and share our stories, our laughter, and our tears to raise money that saves lives while we celebrate survivors, those living with breast cancer, and honor loved ones lost. TI has put together a team for this virtual walk and is asking TIAA members to join the team and/or donate for those who are walking.  Here is how you can help. The fundraising window closes 10/18/21.

Texas Ramps Build

Have you ever changed a person’s life in a single day? The Texas Ramp Project does it hundreds of times a year! They build wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly people who can’t afford to buy one. In a few hours in a morning, they give these folks the freedom to leave their home again—the home where they want to remain but whose steps have imprisoned them.

Computers for the Blind

Volunteers will assist the Computers for the Blind organization in performing simple tasks to configure donated computers with software and hardware in order to allow blind clients to hear computer information and become proficient in “reading” e-mails, internet information, and financial transactions.

TIAA Volunteer Work Day

We are scheduling our first TIAA volunteer work day of the year.  The event will be at the Crossroads Community Services’ warehouse located at 4500 S. Cockrell Hill Road, Dallas.  A van will be provided for transportation and will be located at the Texins Fitness Center 13900 N Central Expy, Dallas, TX 75243 at 7:45 am.  Our shift is from 8:30 – 11:30 am.

POSTPONED: KERA

Our TIAA volunteers will be helping KERA by folding and stuffing membership letters for mailing to their potential members. Please join us at the Texins Fitness Center to board a Senior Source bus at 8:30 am.  Afterwards, we will have lunch at a local restaurant (at our own expense) and arrive back to the Texins Fitness Center by approximately 1:30 pm.  Please register online for this event. We need all to register in order to have sufficient transportation for all.

TIAA Golf Tournament

TIAA is teaming up again with active TIers for the Annual TIAA/TI Charity Golf Tournament. The event is scheduled for Monday,September 14, at the Woodbridge Golf Club in Wylie, TX, with a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. Because TI has shifted its annual United Way Campaign to the spring, we have moved the Golf Tournament earlier in the year to support the campaign.
