Community Involvement

Computers for the Blind

Volunteers will assist the Computers for the Blind organization in performing simple tasks to configure donated computers with software and hardware in order to allow blind clients to hear computer information and become proficient in “reading” e-mails, internet information, and financial transactions.

KERA

Our TIAA volunteers will be helping KERA by folding and stuffing membership letters for mailing to their potential members. Please join us at the Texins Fitness Center to board a Senior Source bus at 8:30 am.  Afterwards, we will have lunch at a local restaurant (at our own expense) and arrive back to the Texins Fitness Center by approximately 1:30 pm.  Please register online for this event. We need all to register in order to have sufficient transportation for all.

VNA Meals On Wheels Gift Wrap

From feeding seniors who are homebound and hungry, to helping a terminally ill patient and their family deal with life’s final journey – VNA is there.  For more than 80 years, VNA has responded to evolving community health needs with innovative client and patient services.  The VNA prepares and distributes over 4,000 hot meals to Dallas County senior residents Monday through Friday.

Annual TI/TIAA Meals on Wheels Delivery

We are asked by TI to volunteer at their annual Meals on Wheels delivery event by forming a team(s) for the biggest TI volunteer event in 2020 on Giving Tuesday, December [TBA], 2020.  Because of our participation, TI has committed to deliver to about 1000 homebound clients of the Dallas County Visiting Nurse Association (VNA Meals on Wheels).  The event begins in the Texins Fitness Center parking lot at 9:45 am.

Readers 2 Leaders

Readers 2 Leaders goal is to develop and grow the reading skills of children, age 3-10, in West Dallas.  Programs include Reading Buddies, After-School Tutors and Saturday Storytime.  Please join us at the Texins Fitness Center to board a Senior Source bus at 8:30 am.

Dallas County Medical Reserve Corps

The 9/11 Heroes Run activates and unites communities to honor the sacrifices of those heroes from September 11th and the wars since, to include veterans, active duty, first responder, and families of the fallen. The 9/11 Heroes Run 5K +1M fun run/walk welcomes runners and walkers of all levels and of all ages, volunteers, friends, and family.  Race proceeds are used to directly support the Travis Manion Foundation's mission to empower our nation's veterans and families of our fallen heroes to develop character in future generations in order to strengthen Communities.
