Annual Meals on Wheels Gift Wrap Work Day

Christmas Meals on Wheels deliveries not only include a hot and cold meal for all of VNA’s 4000+ clients in Dallas County but also a sack of wrapped toiletries.  Each year in early December volunteers arrive at the Meals on Wheels headquarters to wrap an enormous amount of donated toiletries including soap, lotion, toothbrushes & toothpaste, socks, wash clothes, and similar items.  Each client receives a sack containing the toiletries along with their meals on Christmas morning.  Our TIAA volunteers will assist in wrapping toiletries.  Wrapping papers, tape, and sciss

TIAA/TI Charity Golf Tournament

TIAA is teaming up again with active TIers for the Annual TIAA/TI Charity Golf Tournament. The event is scheduled for Monday, May 16, at the Waterview Golf Club in Rowlett, TX, with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. Because TI has shifted its annual United Way Campaign to the spring, we have moved the Golf Tournament earlier in the year to support the campaign.

Senior Source Distribution-DATE/TIME/VENUE CHANGE

Please join us at the Texins Fitness Center to board a Senior Source bus at 9:00 am.  We will assist The Senior Source organization in distributing small air conditioners to clients needing a way to keep their home cool and safe during the hot Dallas summer.  We will remain within the Concord Baptist Church and assist in getting fans into client cars as they arrive, if needed to do so. Afterwards, we will have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense) and arrive back to the Texins Fitness Center around 1:30 pm.

Annual TI/TIAA Meals on Wheels Delivery

We are asked by TI to volunteer at their annual Meals on Wheels delivery event by forming a team(s) for the biggest TI volunteer event in 2022 on Giving Tuesday, December [TBA], 2020.  Because of our participation, TI has committed to deliver to about 1000 homebound clients of the Dallas County Visiting Nurse Association (VNA Meals on Wheels). The event begins in the Texins Fitness Center parking lot at 9:45 am.

Faith & Grief Memorial Arch

The Faith & Grief Memorial Arch is a place of hope and comfort. The Arch provides people a place to remember loved ones each year during the December holidays in Dallas’ Klyde Warren Park. Attendees arriving to remember their loved ones who have died will write the name of their loved one on a ribbon and will tie the ribbon to the Arch as a symbol of remembrance.

Texas Ramps Build

Have you ever changed a person’s life in a single day? The Texas Ramp Project does it hundreds of times a year! They build wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly people who can’t afford to buy one. In a few hours in a morning, they give these folks the freedom to leave their home again—the home where they want to remain but whose steps have imprisoned them.

Dolphin Heights Community Garden

The greens are the stars at the Dolphin Heights Community Garden in East Dallas, which for almost 16 years has been championed by a woman affectionately known as the Mayor of Dolphin Heights. "I got that name actually from Mayor (Mike) Rawlings," said Anna Hill, the longtime neighborhood association president. When she moved to the neighborhood in the mid-1980s there was "lots of criminal activity," she said.  She and a couple of other residents eventually decided it was time to take back the neighborhood.

Wilkinson Center (6-8 volunteers)

Wilkinson Center is a dynamic service provider for families struggling to escape poverty, providing services throughout Dallas County, with a focus in East and Southeast Dallas including Pleasant Grove.  Wilkinson Center’s vision is to eliminate generational poverty by addressing clients’ most significant issues: basic human necessities (food and shelter), education and employment.
