Dallas-Area Last-Minute Event Opportunities

In addition to TIAA's normally scheduled Travel and Events activities, TIAA frequently learns about other Dallas-area opportunities for events that are available to individuals.  We hope some of them may be interesting to our members and would be willing to post others if a member will use Contact Us to send the info.

Meaningful Moments at the Dallas Museum of Art

Meaningful Moments is held at the Dallas Museum of Art every third Tuesday of the month.  The program is open to seniors with early-stage dementia and their family, and attendees are led through interactive exhibit tours an hour before the museum is open to the public.  The last half-hour of the program includes an art-making activity related to the exhibit the group is exploring.   The program is free, but registration is required.  To get more information or to register, call 214-972-1251 or email access@DMA.org.

First Saturdays at the Nasher  

The Nasher Sculpture Center will have free admission on the first Saturday of every month as part of a monthly series.  "First Saturdays" also feature various kid-friendly activities:

  • Children’s Art Activity: 10 am – 12 noon
  • Artist Demonstrations: 10 am – 12:30 pm
  • Art Scavenger Hunt: 10 am – 2 pm
  • Family Tours: Hourly from 10:15 am – 12:15 pm
  • Yoga in the Garden presented by Yogasport (weather permitting): 11:30 am
  • Second Glances with the Writer's Garret: 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm
  • Story time with the Dallas Public Library: 12:30 pm
  • NasherKids Live!: 1 pm
  • NasherKids Meal Available at Nasher Cafe: 11 am – 2 pm  

Meadows Museum

The Meadows Museum at SMU houses one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of Spanish art outside of Spain. With works dating from the 10th to the 21st centuries, the internationally renowned collection presents a broad spectrum of art covering a thousand years of Spanish heritage.  The Meadows serves the public as a significant cultural center by presenting 400 events annually. Tickets are normally $8 for seniors 65 and over and $4 for students but there is free admission every Thursday after 5 pm.  


Trammel & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art

From its opening in 1998 to today, the Crow Collection of Asian Art has focused on creating a serene and welcoming environment for all those who visit our galleries. Our guests come for a variety of reasons – to experience Asia firsthand, see beautiful works of art, participate in wellness activities, share time with family, peruse our award-winning Lotus Shop or transcend the busy world just outside our doors. The Crow Collection of Asian Art is your Asian art museum – enjoy!  Admission is always free but it is closed every Monday.
