More than 80 TIAA members, spouses and guests were in attendance for the 17th Annual Business Meeting of the TI Alumni Association, held May 26, at TI’s RFAB in Richardson. President Larry James, called the meeting to order and gave an update of all the activities over the past fiscal year. He noted that there were currently more than 1,500 TIAA members, with 51% being life-time members.
The 2016 annual meeting to elect officers for the TI Alumni Association will be held at RFAB, TI’s wafer fab facility in Richardson. It is the world's most advanced facility for analog chip manufacturing. The meeting on May 26 will begin at 1:30 pm with a reception and refreshments in the RFAB’s new conference center. The business meeting will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by comments from Tom Weichel, Manager of RFAB, who will also give a brief update on TI.
Four representatives from the TI Alumni Association recently met at TI with executives from Towers Watson’s OneExchange where they had the opportunity to voice fellow retirees’ concerns and report gaps experienced during open enrollment. The meeting was organized by TI’s Health Benefits team, who prepared this summary for TI retirees.
In 2015, Medicare-eligible TI retirees were transitioned to OneExchange for the purchase of their health care coverage to supplement their Medicare coverage. Several retirees reported various issues with the OneExchange process. As a result, the Health Benefits team at TI has arranged a meeting at TI on March 17 to discuss and resolve these issues. Executives from OneExchange and representatives from the TI Alumni Association (TIAA) have been invited to the meeting. Regardless of what some people say, the hard-working TIAA Travel & Events (T&E) subcommittee’s goal is not to eat our way across Texas. Nor is it to have the most fun and the loudest meetings. (One TIAA president found our meeting just by following the sound of laughter.)
In response to the tornadoes and storms that impacted several North Texas communities on December 26, the TI Foundation has made an immediate $25,000 grant to the American Red Cross and has committed to match TI employee and retiree donations to the American Red Cross up to an additional $25,000. For the match, employee and retiree donations must be made through this microsite by January 15, 2016.
If you made a contribution in 2015 to either an education or arts and cultural organization, the deadline to get the TI Foundation match for that donation is January 31st.
Also, if you volunteered for a nonprofit agency, the deadline is the same to submit hours for the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP).
To request your dollar-for-dollar match or VIP grant, click here. After gifts and volunteer hours are registered online, the receiving organization must confirm the donation and or volunteer hours by February 29th.
TIAA has reviewed its practice of creating and distributing a large printed newsletter each quarter.
The reality is the vast majority of our communications are now received by members and others via email. It just doesn’t make sense to continue the considerable expense and effort required to carry on this tradition when there is a better way to serve our members who do not have email.
More than 500 retirees, guests, volunteers, and exhibitors attended this year’s TI Retiree Luncheon at the Mesquite Convention Center on October 1. TI Alumni Association President, Larry James, welcomed attendees and introduced special guests from TI and recognized the Legend Sponsors of the upcoming TIAA Annual Charity Golf Tournament, and thanked the Texans Credit Union and TI for their role as Underwriters for the tournament. He also thanked all the volunteers, both those from TI and from the TIAA for their work in preparing for the luncheon.
