We had a blast! There were 20 TIAA members and guests who boarded a large, comfortable bus at the Dallas Texins Activity Center and headed to Canton on Thursday, May 1, to tour First Monday Trade Days. (Yes, it wasn't Monday but we wanted to be there early to snap up all of those bargains.) This is advertised as "the world's largest flea market" and we believe it. We had a beautiful, clear day around 70 degrees.
TIAA hosted a Bingo game for our members on February 5, 2014 at the Texans Activity Center. Each attendee brought a wrapped gift and TIAA furnished others to be used as prizes for the various games; straight, four corners, blackout, etc. After all of the prizes were awarded, we enjoyed a delicious lunch with everyone bringing a dish to be shared.
TI has set aside seats for TIAA for this free concert so join us and listen to our own 20-piece TI Jazz Band begin the afternoon. This full band has saxophones, trombones, trumpets and a rhythm section and will feature the winner(s) of the TI Voice Idol concert. Following intermission the world-class Dallas Symphony Orchestra, led by Jaap Van Zweden, will play an exclusive performance just for TI. We’ll board our bus at 1:30 pm, ride into Dallas without worrying about traffic or parking for the 2:30 pm concert and return about 5:00 pm.
On January 21, 2014 TIAA arranged a trip to the Perot Science Museum to explore parts of the 180,000 sq. ft. building filled with 11 permanent exhibit halls.
The Upper Reserved section looking right down the third base line offers a great view of this beautiful stadium. We will leave at 5:00 pm., grab something to eat and drink at our own expense at one of the many ball park vendors, enjoy the evening game and return around 11:00 pm. Cost will be $32 for members and $36 for nonmembers. Please register early as we were only able to buy 20 tickets
TIAA members and guests enjoyed a trip around the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth to see the Christmas lights. We brought bags of food that they were collecting for various charities in the area.
The Chinese Lantern Festival allowed us to enjoy the hundreds of glowing orbs in a rainbow of colors at night. We saw the astounding “Porcelain Pagoda” which is a 52-foot-tall temple made of 68,000 pieces of dishware -- just one of 17 new scenes at this year’s festival.

We’ll meet at the Garland Civic Theater at 2:00 pm and enjoy a matinee showing the glamour and decadent excess of the Jazz Age based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel. Afterward, we’ll go to the Dos Banderas on Main Street for great Mexican food at your own expense. Ticket cost is $18.00 for members and guests. Tickets are very limited so make your reservation early.
