Mesquite Rodeo Event, June, 2015

Adventure-seeking TIAA members and guests spent several hours at the enclosed, climate-controlled Mesquite Championship Rodeo arena on June 12. We had prime seats near the chutes and watched bareback and saddled bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding and barrel racing. Probably our favorite event, though, was "Mutton Bustin" when 4-6 year-old kids clutch the backs of big shaggy sheep and try to hang on for eight seconds as the sheep seeks to join its flock at the other end of the arena -- and all for $20.

Texas Rangers Baseball Game, May 1, 2015

Twenty TIAA members and their guests were bussed to Globe Life Park in Arlington, TX, to watch the Texas Rangers play against the Oakland Athletics on May 1.  Our favorite team is still trying to win the World Series -- this year with a new coach and some new players.  We had great seats looking down the third base line plus a great view of this beautiful stadium. Although we cheered as loudly as we could, they lost the game 7-5; but we still had a lot of fun.

Chickasaw Cultural Center Visit, April 2, 2015

Wow, what a great way to spend April 2.  Forty-two TIAA members and guests climbed into a large luxury passenger bus and traveled about 135 miles to visit the Chickasaw Cultural Center near Davis, OK.  The Chickasaw Nation consists of 7,648 square miles in Oklahoma and is home to the largest tribal cultural center in the U.S. We stopped by their Bedre Chocolate Factory first for an up-close view of the factory floor and sampled (and bought!) delicious chocolates to take home.

Choctaw Casino - Oklahoma

Join us for a fun day of gambling at Choctaw Casino in Oklahoma.

This year's trip will be different in that we will ride the scheduled bus that makes a stop in Plano. We will meet at Kohl's in Plano, 2704 Central Expy, Plano, TX at 10:15 am for the bus that leaves at 10:35 am.

Each traveler must have a players card or be prepared to get one on arrival at the casino.  Each traveler will also have to register with either the casino or TIAA to reserve seats on the bus.  The bus ride is free.

The return time from the casino is 7:25 pm.

Bass Performance Hall Tour, February, 2015

Fifteen TIAA travelers hopped on a new Echo bus and toured the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth on February 18.  We learned that it was completed in 1998 entirely with private funds with Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass donating one city block in Sundance Square for its location. They hold the Van CliburnInternational Piano Competitions there (using Steinway pianos who are lifted up to stage level from three stories below) along with symphony concerts, plays, musicals, etc.

Reunion Tower Tour, March 2015

This structure was recently ranked in the Dallas Morning News: Guide as a “Top 10 Jaunt” because it isn’t just about seeing what’s below from 560 feet in the air but about expanding your horizons.  There are loads of entertaining and interactive features here without even counting the 360-degree views of Dallas. We took the DART light rail to Union Station  rode the elevator to the newly refurbished GeO-Deck.
