TIAA and Dallas Ramps build another ramp, April, 2017
TIAA members and guests became “angels of light” on April 20 by bringing and installing compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) in various homes and showing Dallas area seniors how they can use less energy and save money. Volunteers met at Texins and rode a bus to the seniors’ homes.
TIAA members and guests became “angels of light” on September 29 by installing compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) in various homes and showing Dallas area seniors how they can use less energy and save money. Volunteers met at Texins and rode a bus to the seniors’ homes. The highlight of the trip, beyond the smiles of thanks from grateful seniors, was Dutch treat lunch at Norma’s on our way back to Texins.
Wendy Marsden worked for Raytheon for 11 years (and for Alcatel prior to that). She has been bed-ridden and wheelchair bound for some time which means she has difficulty coming and going from her home. A friend had built a platform by her door threshold and an unsafe (but usable) ramp to the sidewalk. On Tuesday, April 24th, TIAA along with Dallas Ramps met at her home in Garland to remove the steep ramp and replace it with a 12-foot wooden ramp.
The SMU Dedman School of Law provides the “NITA Trial Program Dallas” seminar during June of each year for practicing lawyers across the Nation. This seminar allows lawyers the opportunity to practice court presentation skills in front of volunteers who serve as jury members.

TIAA is teaming up again with active TIers for the Annual TIAA Charity Golf Tournament at the Woodbridge Golf Club in Wylie, TX, with a shotgun start at noon. Because TI has shifted its annual United Way Campaign to the spring, we have moved the Golf Tournament earlier in the year to serve as a kickoff to the 2018 campaign. TIAA Golfers, as well as active Tiers, will benefit The Senior Source.
We are asked by TI to volunteer at their annual Meals on Wheels delivery event by forming a team(s) for the biggest TI volunteer event in 2018 on Giving Tuesday, November 27th! Because of our participation, TI has committed to deliver to about 1000 homebound clients of the Dallas County Visiting Nurse Association (VNA Meals on Wheels). The event begins in the Texins Activity Center parking lot at 9:45 am.
