World Vision Volunteering, April 24, 2014

World Vision provides free school supplies to teachers in schools that serve low-income families. Here teachers can obtain teaching aids, books, binders, backpacks, pencils, art supplies, and posters at their warehouse so students don't go without educational supplies.. They may also obtain educational toys and games that can be used as incentives for stellar schoolwork or good behavior. Schools in which 70 percent or more students qualify for subsidized meals qualify and, in Dallas, over 50% of schools fall into that category.

Dolphin Heights Garden, March 11, 2014

The Dolphin Heights Community Garden was founded about five years ago on a vacant lot on Silver Avenue by community residents. It is a place that all residents can gather to grow fruits and vegetables and enjoy beautiful open spaces in Dolphin Heights.  The garden is also being used as a learning tool for the kids in the Dolphin Heights After School Program (ASP). They learn about plant growth and decide which types of fruits and vegetables to grow this summer. We helped weed the garden and get it ready for spring planting.

White Rock Center of Hope Visit, January 9, 2014

The White Rock Center of Hope is a community coalition of individuals, civic and social organizations, and over 50 member churches united to provide emergency aid and steps toward self-sufficiency to their neighbors. TIAA volunteers sorted food  for distribution to clients and help maintain proper inventory control, sorted clothing and household items for retail and client needs, and assisted clients in obtaining food, clothing, and household items.  We enjoyed lunch afterward at a local restaurant before returning about 1:30 pm.
