The winners of the 2014 On My Own Time Art Exhibition were announced at the Artists’ Reception & Awards Ceremony at the Texins Activity Center on August 15.

The Best of Show award was won by TIAA's Ted Houston for his work on canvas, "We're Still Here". The People's Choice award was won by Nima Shahidi for his ceramic bowl, "Firouzeh". A total of 275 votes were cast online and 83 paper ballots were collected at Texins during the exhibition.

The ribbons were presented by Terri Grosh, recently named Employee Engagement Manager for TI. In her comments, Terri thanked the artists for their participation and for the inspiration of their work.

There were 56 entries in nine categories in this year's competition. The 36 participating artists included active TIers, retirees, contractors, and their spouses.

Those receiving First Place ribbons, along with Best of Show and People’s Choice awards are eligible to display their artwork at NorthPark Center during the region-wide exhibition, September 14 – 26. The show is open to the public and there is no charge.

Katherine Wagner, CEO of the Business Council of the Arts (BCA), who directs the region-wide program, attended the ceremony at Texins and spoke to the artists. She praised their creativity and the quality of their work.

BCA has many art events throughout the year and she invited all of the artists to take advantage of their programs, which are shown on the BCA website. As a member company of the BCA, all TIers, retirees, and contractors of TI, and their spouses, are eligible to attend the BCA programs.
