TIAA Elects Officers at Annual Meeting

The TI Alumni Association convened for the 11th annual business meeting on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in the TI Foundation Auditorium at The University of Texas at Dallas.

The following officers were elected:

President - Betty Purkey
Executive VP - Larry James
Secretary - Marilyn Adams
Treasurer - Gary Stopani

The new officers will begin one-year terms July 1.

Dr. David E. Daniel, president of The University of Texas at Dallas, welcomed TIAA to the campus and told how UT Dallas is growing into a great research university with continued support from Texas Instruments. (See Media sidebar link to Dr. Daniel’s presentation.)

The first building was dedicated in 1964 on a 1,200-acre campus in Richardson, made possible by donations from the TI-GSI Foundation and the TI Founders’ families.

As a consequence of TI’s decision to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Richardson (the RFAB), UT Dallas received $300 million from the State of Texas, the UT System and other entities.

Some of these funds were used to build the Natural Science and Engineering Research Laboratory at the university, which opened in 2007. About 40 TIAA members toured the NSERL building after the meeting.

Ronnie Brandenburg, outgoing TIAA president, reported on TIAA accomplishments and upcoming programs. (See Media sidebar link to Ronnie’s presentation.)

TIAA members attending the annual meeting were able to view an exhibit of TI Founder Cecil Green’s photos and memorabilia that TI is donating to UT Dallas. The collection will hang in the Eugene McDermott Library.
