Redesigned TIAA Newsletter

The Fourth Quarter 2009 issue of TI Alumni News sports a slimmer look to meet new requirements by the Post Office. Several features were redesigned to help compensate for the resulting 10 percent space reduction. The lead story is the announcement of the TI Retiree Luncheon at the Mesquite Convention Center on Oct. 27. In honor of TIAA’s 10th anniversary, the issue also features a history timeline of our activities and accomplishments since TIAA was founded in 1999. Printed versions of the newsletter are now mailed only to current TIAA members who do not opt out of postal delivery. However, all former TIers can view and/or download and print out a copy of the newsletter using the TIAA website at www.tialumni.org/news/.

Golf Tournament a Success

The 10th Annual TIAA Charity Golf Tournament had to be rescheduled from Sept. 14 to Sept. 28 because of the heavy rains – too late for us to report the results in the Fourth Quarter newsletter. This year’s tournament raised $21,125 in donations and pledges for The Senior Source. Since 2001, TIAA has raised $224,391 to benefit this non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life for senior citizens in the North Texas area. Complete results can be viewed by going to www.tialumni.org/golf/.

Health Benefits Seminar

Tyler Rose Festival – Thursday, Oct. 8

There are still a few seats available on the comfortable coach bus taking us to the Tyler Rose Festival. We’ll leave the Texins Activity Center at 10 a.m. and have lunch at our own expense at Rick’s on the Square in Tyler. Then we’ll experience the beauty and unbelievable aroma of thousands of roses growing in manicured beds at the Rose Garden, where we can take an optional tour of the Rose Museum ($3.50 entrance fee) explaining how the Tyler Rose Festival began and displaying some of early festival queens’ attire. After attending the Queen’s Tea at 3 p.m. and viewing the Queen’s Court in their fabulous costumes, we’ll board the bus at 4 p.m. and return to Texins about 6 p.m. Phone 214-567-8444 to make your reservation and bring your check with you to the bus. Price is $15 for members and $17 for nonmembers.
