Summer Fun Activities
Southfork Hotel
Mystery Dinner Theater – Saturday, Aug. 16 – Enjoy
a dinner buffet with a live, audience-interactive “who done it”
mystery performance of “Shooting at Southfork,” complete with J.R.
Ewing and family. Southfork Hotel is located at Central Expressway
and 16th St. in Plano. Price includes dinner, tax, gratuity,
performance and bus ride for $44 per person for TIAA members and $49
for non-members. Depart Texins parking lot at 7 p.m. and return at
10:15 p.m. Register by August 9.
Jack Kilby: The Eye
of Genius – Thursday, Aug. 28 – Visit the SMU
Meadows Museum to see Kilby’s remarkable photographs as well as his
Nobel Prize; hear a lecture by Anne Peterson on the creativity of
this genius and tour the largest and most comprehensive collection
of Spanish art outside of Spain including works by Picasso, Goya,
Modin, etc. Depart Texins parking lot at 4:30 p.m. and return at 8
p.m. Price of $7 for members and $8 for nonmembers includes bus ride
and admission to the museum. Register by August 21.
“As Time Goes By” The
Spectacular Senior Follies – Saturday, Sept. 6 –
Ride the DART light rail to within one block of the Eisemann Center
at 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson and join us to see an
extravagant production featuring the classics from the 1930’s and
40’s reminiscent of the legendary Ziegfeld Follies highlighting
variety acts, singers, dancers and, keeping with tradition,
showgirls in stunning costumes with a backdrop of
professionally-designed sets rivaling Broadway. Matinee begins at
2:00 p.m. Group price is $25 for TIAA members and $28 for
non-members. Register by August 31.
Lone Oak Winery,
Burleson – Wednesday, Sept. 10 – Observe how wine
is made from the vine to the bottle with a great tour of the Lone
Oak Winery. Walk through the vineyard, and see grape-crushing and
the aging room with oak barrels. Then go to the tasting room to
sample those grapes. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Board the bus
at Texins parking lot at 10 a.m. Return at 4 p.m. Have lunch at your
own expense at a restaurant to be determined. The prices — $20 for
TIAA members and $23 for non-members — include the wine tour and
roundtrip bus fare. Register by September 3.
Crow Collection of
Asian Art – Saturday, Sept. 13, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. –
See an outstanding set of galleries dedicated to the arts and
cultures of China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. This museum is
located at 2010 Flora Street in the Arts District in downtown Dallas
and is only a few blocks from a DART light rail station. Paid
parking is available in the Trammell Crow Center Garage from either
Harwood or Olive streets. A guided tour will begin from the lobby at
1 p.m. Free admission.
White Elephant Bingo
Party and Pot Luck Lunch – Thursday, Sept. 18, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
– Come to Conference Rooms C1-C2 at the Texins Activity Center.
Bring a wrapped gift to be used for prizes as well as a covered dish
to be shared after the games.
